the easiest way would be to have an online portfolio, contact informoation, and hand out business cards that redirect potential clients to your portfolio.
The problem with web design is that it is not really something you can ever learn as there is always something new. You can create a decent CSS & HTML based site after learning for a couple of days but to get to a decent standard i would say about 4 months there about
I’ve been on the web for over 4 years now, and there is still a lot I need to learn. For designing web pages, either start with Webs or WordPress (Links below). Webs is probably the best for beginners who don’t know too much HTML, but WordPress is also very simple, seeing as how there are Themes already made that you can just download and install. All you need to do is write news/posts, and publish pages.
If you start with Webs, I would recommend going to a website that will design and code a layout for you. Once you have used a design that has been coded for you, after a few times switching the layouts around (If you want to, some websites do to keep a fresh look), you’ll start to understand what certain code does. I know for a fact, the first time I looked at a code for a layout, I thought it was just random number and letters. Now I can code basically anything in less than an hour. Once you know coding fairly well, I would start the designing part (If you want to design a custom header or anything). The program I use is Corel Paint Shop Pro X2, and it is fairly easy to learn.
I started with Zoomshare, which doesn’t teach you a thing about web design. But after that I went to webs and learned A LOT. I basically learned how to do everything on there. How to make posts look good, what to put along the sides, and I even learned how to code layouts while I was on webs. So if you want to learn as much as possible, go with Webs. But if you want a great looking website that you don’t have to do anything for, go to WordPress.
